Heavy, sterling silver necklace with a very old, rare and historically important Islamic coin. The coin featured was minted by Abd al-Malik Ibn Marwan, Caliph of the Umayyad dynasty 685-705 AD or 65-85 AH.

According to my research, this would have been one of the very first specifically Islamic coins to be struck and would have replaced the Byzantine coinage used in the Umayyad Caliphate until then.

Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan ibn al-Hakam came from one of the very first generations to be born as Muslims. To the wider world he is remembered for the founding of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, but many Islamic scholars say that his most significant achievement was Abd al-Malik's centralized government of the Caliph, which became the prototype for later medieval states.

Although we will never really know who’s hands this coin passed through, or what it was used to buy, it is still a tangible, physical link to those long-ago days that must have seen the start of some of the most significant changes in world history.

The coin has been set into a heavy silver pendant, as if it were a precious gem. Without its solid silver chain the pendant weighs 29g, which is a fraction over one ounce. The mount itself was made from sterling silver, utilizing some of the latest technology along side some of the oldest craft skills. The pendant's recesses are illustrated with a delicate artistic style reminiscent of illuminated Islamic designs.
The finished talisman has been decorated with a deep-emerald green UV cured enamel and is supplied on a strong, solid silver chain in its own gift box.
