With this piece I have tried my hardest to capture the stern dignity of this majestic, queen of the savanna, provider for her cubs and pride.The lion traditionally symbolises courage and nobility in many cultures. The ancient Egyptians portrayed several of their war deities as lionesses, which they revered as fierce hunters.

The solid gold lioness is made from 9ct gold that has been given a high-carat gold coating. It measures 1.5cm, or five eighths of an inch across its widest point. Without its solid 9ct chain, it weighs approximately 3.7g and has eyes made from 1.5mm brilliant cut diamonds.

The part satin finished, part polished, gold lioness has been hung from an elegant 18 inch long, gold chain and is supplied in its own gift box.

To create the lioness I have utilized some of the most up-to-date technology alongside some of the oldest skills still used in jewellery and goldsmithing. The original lioness was hand carved from wax before being digitally resized. It was cast in solid 9ct gold, which was then reworked, for several hours, using traditional Goldsmiths' tools, to produce a very fine detail.

To emphasize the details of the carving, the lioness was given a satin finish with polished highlights.
