This single-sided gar, garpike, or alligator gar pendant is made from 9ct gold that has been given a high-carat gold coating. It has been set with a brilliant cut diamond for its eye.

There are seven species of gar (also called garfish or garpike), from the modestly sized spotted gar to the truly enormous alligator gar. The largest ever officially recorded was 8 ft 5 1⁄4 in (2.572 m) long, weighed 327 lb (148 kg). All gars are voracious and efficient predators, catching their prey with long jaws and needle-like teeth. They probably get their name from the Anglo-Saxon word for spear; due to their hard, diamond-shaped scales. Looking at a gar is a bit like looking into the distant past. Largely unchanged since the time of the dinosaurs, they are often called living fossils.
Today gars are primarily found in North America, but their range used to be much more extensive, with fossils being found in Europe, Africa, South Asia, and South America.

This piece of jewellery has been cast in gold from a mould taken from a hand-carved model. It has a Hallmark from the Assay office to prove that it is real gold and a genuine diamond for its eye. It is supplied in its own gift box with a waxed cotton cord to wear it on.

Please allow up to 30 days for a solid gold piece to be made for you.

This piece can also be made for you in either 18ct yellow, white or red gold, 22ct gold or platinum. Please contact me for a quotation: adrianashleyjewellery@gmail.com
