Enamelled diamond ring with a summer night's sky motif

This ring features a hand enamelled disc of 18mm in diameter. The Summer Night motif is a star map of the Northern Hemisphere's sky on a summer evening. The moon is represented my a 0.40ct rose-cut, natural, mined diamond, given a fancy yellow colour.
The stars were painted into the enamelled disk using the Grisaille technique of fusing several layers of very finely ground glass ‘paint’ onto a dark enamel background. This technique requires several firings and takes many hours to complete. 

The ring is made from Hallmarked sterling silver. It has been given a brushed finish and has been coated with a mix of rhodium and platinum. The ring was cast directly from a wax model that was carved entirely by hand and has been initialled and dated by Adrian Ashley.

Notes on enamelled rings:

Enamels are best treated as if they are opals, pearls or other more delicate jewels.
These rings cannot easily be resized using conventional methods, nor can they be easily repaired. They should be treated exclusively as a dress ring and should not be worn whilst engaging in sports or performing manual or domestic tasks.
