This silver pendant depicts a stylised version of the leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), historically known as the lute turtle or the luth.

Leatherbacks are the largest living turtles reaching lengths of almost 2.5 metres and weights of 600 kilos. They have an almost global distribution, reaching as far north as Alaska and as far south as New Zealand, and are such a regular summer visitor to British waters, there is a strong argument for naming them as our 7^th native reptile species.
